HUD Launches Nationwide Accountability Dashboard for Public Housing

New public transparency tool streamlines PHA performance and funding data to enhance accountability measures

October 30, 2026

WASHINGTON – Today, HUD launched the Public Housing Authority (PHA) Accountability Dashboard. This is the latest step in the Trump Administration’s ongoing work to bring accountability and transparency to federal housing programs.

"Since Day One, HUD has been committed to increasing transparency, strengthening program integrity, and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse," said Secretary Turner. "Every family and individual in federally assisted housing deserves a safe home and a well-managed housing authority. The PHA Accountability Dashboard will provide the public with a clear view of service quality, reinforcing public trust and ensuring PHA performance is held to the highest standard."

Since President Trump took office, HUD has worked diligently to ensure taxpayer dollars are stewarded responsibly and reach the vulnerable Americans the Department is entrusted to serve. Under Secretary Turner's leadership, HUD established the Assessment, Recovery, and Oversight Center (AROC) to improve troubled PHA performance through early intervention. Since January 2025, HUD has lifted 77 PHAs out of troubled status. HUD has also declared 7 PHAs in substantial default by taking swift action to protect residents and uphold safe housing conditions. The PHA Accountability Dashboard builds on this work by giving residents, stakeholders, and the public direct access to PHAs' performance and funding data.

Users can search by housing authority, state, or nationwide to view the following data:

  • Current Performance Score: a PHA's score from HUD’s Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) and Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP)
  • Current Performance Designation: a PHA's rating based on its assessment score--High Performer, Standard, Substandard, or Troubled
  • Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Statistics: units and vouchers under each PHA's management
  • Utilization Rates: how extensively a PHA is using its available vouchers and funding
  • Budget Authority: the federal resources each PHA has to serve its residents.

Users can run custom reports by PHA status (troubled, substandard, standard, high performers, in receivership/monitorship, or facing funding shortfall) and compare results across states and regions. The dashboard comes with a glossary of key terms and user guide, allowing residents, local officials, advocates, and researchers to easily navigate the tool.

This action builds on HUD's work as part of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. This year, Secretary Turner:

  • Cleaned out criminal fugitives living in HUD-funded housing
  • Ended illegal immigrants and non-residents receiving taxpayer-backed FHA homeownership loans
  • Held the homeless industrial complex accountable by suspending funding to the fraud-filled Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority
  • Arrested fraudsters for abusing taxpayer dollars that should have been used to combat homelessness
  • Stood up for billions of wasted disaster funds by suspending the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority, which failed to use HUD funds on recovering communities.
