HUD Supports Homeownership and Housing Affordability for More Than One Million Americans
Includes 560,000 first-time American homebuyers
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Secretary Scott Turner announces the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provided a pathway for homeownership and supported housing affordability for more than one million Americans this year through the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae).
“President Trump’s bold leadership is empowering HUD to use every tool at our disposal to make the American dream of homeownership a reality,” said HUD Secretary Scott Turner. “HUD is putting American families first and the results speak for themselves. We will not stop slashing regulations and promoting policies that put families first until young Americans have the same opportunities for homeownership their parents and grandparents once had.”
Since January 2025:
- FHA insured mortgages for more than 700,000 homebuyers and refinance borrowers, including nearly 438,000 first-time homebuyers and 19,200 senior homeowners.
- Ginnie Mae supported over 430,000 Veterans Affairs (VA) loans, with nearly 33% of these loans to veteran first-time homebuyers.
In spite of the left’s shutdown and artificially high interest rates, Ginnie Mae had one of its best months of the year in October 2025 —enabling the securitization of $50.2 billion in mortgage loans, which support affordable homeownership and rental opportunities. This includes 61,446 loans to first time home buyers and 53,528 VA loans.
