HUD Secretary Scott Turner Hosts Tribal Intergovernmental Advisory Committee and Announces National Tribal Housing Summit
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner recently hosted HUD's Tribal Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (TIAC) meeting at HUD’s headquarters. The convening included Tribal leaders from across the nation who make up HUD’s TIAC.
“Since day one, I have stated my commitment to make Tribal communities a priority here at HUD. In my travels to Indian Country, I have seen great innovation—but also great need—in Tribal communities. I am encouraged by the impact Tribes are making to address housing needs. I want to thank each member of HUD’s TIAC for their leadership and support,” said Secretary Turner.
“We are pleased to partner with Tribal leaders and HUD to look at the issues we face today and work together to find solutions, moving Indian Housing forward. The TIAC has built momentum in our collaboration over the last couple of years, and our level of trust has risen to where we can have the hard discussions knowing we are all moving Indian Housing in the right direction. We appreciate Secretary Turner and the HUD staff’s efforts and look forward to continued success while building relationships and discussing policy issues,” said TIAC Co-Chair Bobby Yandell, Choctaw Nation.
The meeting focused on Nation-to-Nation relationships with Tribal governments, program streamlining, Tribal housing needs and challenges in Indian Country, and funding for Tribal housing and community development programs. During the meeting, Secretary Turner reaffirmed HUD’s firm commitment to upholding the Trust and Treaty Responsibilities and formally announced that HUD will host a National Tribal Housing Summit in Crystal City, Virginia, November 4-6, 2025.
