Real Estate Acquisition and Relocation
Overview
The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (URA or Uniform Act) and other HUD requirements such as section 104(d) of the Housing and Community Development (HCD) Act provide important protections and assistance for people and businesses affected by a federally funded projecting involving acquisition, rehabilitation, or demolition of real property. The URA was enacted by Congress to ensure fair, uniform, and equitable treatment and just compensation for, and assistance in moving from, the property they own or occupy.
HUD works closely with the U.S. Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the designated Federal Lead Agency for the URA. Additional information concerning the URA is also available on the FHWA website.
