| December 16-19 | NAHASDA Essentials ++ AAHA is hosting a three (3) day training to provide a comprehensive introduction to the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA). Participants will learn about current regulations, program guidance, and PIH Notices. The course will cover eligible families and activities, including rental housing, homebuyer programs, rehabilitation, and housing services. Key topics include the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) formula, income eligibility, useful life, binding commitments, environmental review, total development costs, financial management, program administration, and recent OMB regulatory updates. | January 6-7 | Procurement and Contract Administration Training This 2-day training will provide an orientation to the procurement requirements for Tribal projects and how to comply with the provisions of 2 CFR Part 200 as well as compliance with the NAHASDA statutes and regulations. The training will discuss each relevant component of the Uniform Guidance to provide participants with the basic knowledge to effectively oversee the procurement process for NAHASDA funded projects. This training is intended to be an introduction to participants who understand contract management and for those who need a refresher on best practices for a compliant procurement process. |
| January 7-8 | Resiliency - Best Practice Toolkit This in-person training will provide Tribal Housing leadership and Tribal leaders with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to develop sustainable housing initiatives. Participants will explore funding opportunities, resilient infrastructure, and long-term strategies to strengthen Tribal Housing programs. When: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time |
| January 13-14 | Self-Sufficiency This two-day course focuses on how Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) can use NAHASDA funds to support residents’ efforts to become self-sufficient. Participants will explore what self-sufficiency means, what self-sufficiency could look like for residents and their TDHEs, eligible activities under NAHASDA, asset-building and workforce development strategies to promote self-sufficiency, and the role of community partnerships. | January 13-15 | Property Maintenance Management The Property Maintenance Management for Tribal Housing training is a 3-day, hands-on program aligned with NAHASDA and HUD guidelines that helps tribal housing staff and property managers develop effective maintenance policies for HUD-assisted properties. Participants learn strategies for preventive and routine maintenance, sustainability, budgeting, staffing, procurement, work order systems, tenant relations, and workplace safety, while preparing for certifications like NCHM’s Certified Manager of Maintenance (CMM) to support long-term housing viability. | January 21-22 | SWONAP Admissions and Occupancy Training This 2-day training is designed to enhance the job performance of admissions and occupancy specialists, along with other tribal housing professionals addressing admissions and occupancy issues. The training provides a comprehensive overview of the admissions and occupancy process, including application intake and selection, eligibility determination, income calculation, monthly rental and homeownership payments, occupancy standards, collections practices, compliance, and lease enforcement. Management, review and revision of policies will be discussed, and a thorough review of a sample policy developed for Alaska Tribes and TDHEs will be included. Some of the policy topics include: Applicable Alaska Law, Application Process, Eligibility and Ineligibility, Waiting Lists, Verification, Maintenance and Inspections, Hoarding, Collections, and Termination. | January 28-29 | Conveyance Process This free, virtual training sponsored by HUD’s Office of Native American Programs (ONAP) helps Tribal Leaders, TDHE staff, housing professionals, and community members understand how to properly transfer ownership of paid-off homes under the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program. It covers HUD’s legal and regulatory requirements, outlines the step-by-step conveyance process, clarifies roles and responsibilities, and offers guidance on homeowner education and post-conveyance duties.
