May 13-15 | Intermediate Financial Management & Audit Preparation Virtual Training AAHA will host a three (3) day training on Intermediate Financial Management & Audit Preparation. This training will take a more comprehensive look into the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for Government accounting and preparedness for the annual audit of Financial Statements and Single Audit. The training will highlight best practices for the successful management and accounting of the NAHASDA funds in accordance with the NAHASDA statute and regulations. Resources and tools will be provided that the HUD/ONAP program recipients (Tribes and TDHEs) can utilize in the fiscal and internal control management of their IHBG funds. May 19 – May 23 | Pathways Home – Train the Trainer In person - Niagara Falls, NY Pathways Home: Train-the-Trainer will instruct participants on how to deliver a comprehensive homebuyer education program designed to help educate prospective Native homebuyers on how to become successful homeowners. The curriculum is specifically tailored for Native American communities. Participants will learn the most effective methods to help potential homebuyers determine what is best for them, such as, whether to build a new home or to buy an existing one, or how to apply for a loan. May 27-29 | Admissions and Occupancy Training Virtual Training AAHA is hosting a three (3) day online training designed to enhance the job performance of Admissions and Occupancy staff and other tribal housing professionals working on Admissions and Occupancy issues. The course will cover Admissions and Occupancy program management with topics to include: the application and selection process, eligibility for housing assistance, calculating annual income, determining monthly rental or homeownership payments, occupancy standards, collections practices and compliance, effective communication techniques with residents, lease agreement compliance, and collections. June 3 – 5 | Environmental Review Virtual Training This training provides Indian tribes, including Native Alaskan villages, and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) with specific instructions and guidelines for carrying out the environmental review process according to 24 CFR Part 58: Environmental Review Procedures for Entities Assuming HUD Environmental Responsibilities. Environmental reviews are required for all HUD-assisted projects or activities and must be completed prior to construction or commitment of any HUD funds.

June 3 – 4 | Indian Housing Plan (IHP)/Annual Progress Report (APR) Training Virtual Training This training will provide instruction on how to complete the Indian Housing Plan (IHP) and an Annual Performance Report (APR) and provide guidance on GEMS, the system for submitting the IHP/APR. June 4 - 5 | In person – Denver, CO This two-day training will teach about how to effectively manage the Tribal HUD-VASH program, which provides rental assistance and supportive services to Native American Veterans. June 10 – 11 | Virtual Training This 2-day training will provide an overview of the administrative and financial management requirements for the Indian Housing Block Grant pursuant to NAHASDA and the Uniform Guidance. Attendees will learn how to research guidance processes and procedures for NAHASDA and the Uniform Guidance. The training will also provide helpful guidance on applying the Uniform Guidance to IHBG. Attendees will review tools to assist recipients in complying with IHBG requirements and learn to identify best practices for compliance with the requirements. June 10 – 12 | Virtual Training AAHA is hosting a three (3) day training to provide a comprehensive introduction to the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA). Participants will become familiar with the latest regulations, program guidance, and PIH Notices. A review of eligible families and eligible activities, including rental housing, homebuyer programs, rehabilitation, housing and crime prevention services will be provided. Major topics to be addressed include the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) formula, income eligibility, and other Federal requirements impacting IHBG activities, such as useful life and binding commitments, environmental review requirements, total development costs, financial management and program administration, and the latest OMB regulations. It will emphasize the Tribe/TDHE’s role in compliance of NAHASDA program specific financial activities on Indian Housing Plan budget planning and analyses, treatment of program income, investment of Indian Housing Block Grant grant funds, financial reporting on the Annual Performance Report, and monitoring.
