SEATTLE, WA: Margaret Salazar Joins HUD as Regional Administrator in the Northwest
President Biden announced the appointment of Margaret Salazar to serve as HUD Regional Administrator for Region 10, serving Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Regional Administrator Salazar will oversee HUD operations, including offices in each of the four states.

ST. MICHAEL, AK: "Once in a Lifetime Funding": Bering Strait Region Villages Receive Federal
Money to Address Housing Shortages

For prospective homebuyers in the Alaska village of St. Michael a cluster of gravel pads represents hope. Soon the 26 gravel pads will serve as the foundation for tiny homes after a $1,035,000 grant through HUD's Indian Community Development Block Grant Program.

MOUNT VERNON, WA: Housing Authority of Skagit County in Midst of Latest Project
The Housing Authority of Skagit County held a groundbreaking for an apartment complex that will serve low-income farmworkers, military veterans and people with disabilities. The project will open for tenants in early 2023 and will include HUD VASH vouchers.

JUNEAU, AK: Federal Housing Funding Directed to Southeast Programs
HUD awarded $4 million to two Juneau organizations - Tlingit and Haida Regional Housing Authority and Alaska Heat Smart - aimed remediating lead and other health and safety hazards in dozens of lower income family homes in Juneau and Southeast Alaska.

EUGENE, OR: We're Taking You on a Virtual Construction Tour of The Nel!
In 2021 Homes for Good broke ground on 45 units of Permanent Supportive Housing using HUD funds. The Nel will be completed in July 2022; however, Homes for Good is offering a "virtual construction tour” to learn more about the project.

SEATTLE, WA: Chief Seattle Club Opens Housing Development for Homeless Households
The native-led housing and human services agency Chief Seattle Club opened its 80-unit housing development in Pioneer Square on January 24. The new urban Indian development received funds from the City of Seattle Community Development Block Grant for a portion of the project.


Region X Funding Awards

HUD Announces Disaster Assistance for Washington Disaster Survivors (1/7/2022)
HUD announced federal disaster assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by flooding and mudslides in November 2021 for the counties of Clallam, Skagit, and Whatcom and the Lummi Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, and Quileute Tribe.

HUD Awards $5 Million to Alaskan Organizations to Protect Families from Home Hazards (1/12/2022)
HUD awarded nearly $104.7 million to 60 non-profit organizations, and state and local government agencies located in 29 states to protect children and families from home health hazards, including $5 million to three Alaskan organizations.

HUD Announces More Than $31 Million to Alaskan and Washington Tribal Communities to Deliver Equitable COVID-19 Relief (1/18/2022)
HUD awarded more than $83 million in Indian Community Block Grant-American Rescue Plan (ICDBG-ARP) grants to 74 Tribal communities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the third round of ICDBG-ARP awards.

HUD Announces Disaster Assistance for Alaska Disaster Survivors (1/19/2022)
HUD announced federal disaster assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the Kenai Peninsula Borough area of Alaska affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides from October 29 to November 1, 2021.

HUD Awards Grants in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington to Support Housing Counseling Programs (1/24/2022)
HUD awarded $51.4 million in housing counseling grants to 177 HUD-approved housing counseling agencies and intermediary organizations, including four grants in HUD Region X to agencies in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

HUD Announces Landlord Incentives Cohort of 'Moving to Work' Demonstration (1/27/2022)
HUD announced the Landlord Incentives cohort of the expansion of the Moving to Work Demonstration Program, including Homes for Good in Oregon and the Spokane and Yakima Housing Authorities in Washington.

FY 2021 Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant Program – CLOSING 2/15/2022
Local leaders, residents, and stakeholders such as public housing authorities, cities, schools, police, business owners, nonprofits, and private developers, come together to create and implement a plan that revitalizes distressed HUD housing and the surrounding neighborhood.

Radon Testing and Mitigation Demonstration for Public Housing – CLOSING 3/28/2022
Funds for public housing agencies (PHAs) to conduct testing and as-needed mitigation of radon in the units that they manage and to support the development of a plan for future testing and mitigation.

Authority to Accept Unsolicited Proposals for Research Partnerships – CLOSING 6/30/2022
This Notice announces that HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research has the authority to accept unsolicited research proposals that address current research priorities including Lead and Healthy Homes and other topics.

FHA Expands Real-Estate Owned Property Purchase Opportunities for Owner-Occupant Buyers (1/13/2022)
The FHA announced it is increasing its exclusive listing period on certain HUD single-family real-estate owned homes to allow more time for owner occupants, HUD-approved nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities to submit bids for the purchase of these homes.

HUD Appoints Four New Members to the Housing Counseling Federal Advisory Committee (1/24/2022)
HUD announced the appointment of four new members to the Housing Counseling Federal Advisory Committee. These new members complement the Committee's existing eight members, bringing membership back to the full twelve members authorized by statute.

HUD Publishes Notice to Extend Length of Housing Support to Foster Youth (1/25/2022)
HUD published a notice providing guidance to increase the amount of time that youth may receive a FUP or FYI voucher up to an additional 24 months of voucher assistance, for a maximum of 60 months of voucher assistance.

HUD and Census Bureau Report New Residential Sales in December 2021 (1/26/2022)
HUD and the U.S. Census Bureau jointly announced new residential sales statistics for December 2021.

HUD Secretary Fudge, D.C. Mayor Bowser Participate in D.C. Point-in-Time Count (1/27/2022)
HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser participated in the 2022 Point-in-Time Count on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. The PIT Count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January.

HUD Opens Access to More than $2 Billion in Federal Funds for Disaster Recovery and Mitigation (1/31/2022)
HUD issued the Allocations for Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery and Implementation of the CDBG-DR Consolidated Waivers and Alternative Requirements Notice which opens access to federal disaster and resilience funds.

Recordings and transcripts from the Section 3 Office Hours sessions from November 30, 2021, and December 2, 2021, are now available on HUD Exchange. These sessions provided participants an opportunity to ask questions and get assistance with implementing Section 3.

New HUD Section 3 Guidebook Posted
HUD released the Section 3 Guidebook with updated material and information. The guidebook informs users on how to implement the requirements of the new Section 3 final rule, as well as specific application as it relates to different services and within different HUD program offices.
