HUD Region II Regional Administrator Alicka Ampry-Samuel traveled to Oneonta, New York, to present a $1,162,978 ceremonial check to Opportunities for Otsego and Catholic Charities of Chenango County, two local homeless housing and services organizations.
HUD awarded New York a total of $2,042,59; Opportunities for Otsego received $716,456, and Catholic Charities of Chenango County received $446,522. The remainder, $879,621, was awarded to the New York Balance of State Continuum of Care.
HUD RA Ampry-Samuel announced the funding at a press conference in Opportunities for Otsego, located in Oneonta, New York. The event brought together two mayors - Mayor Mark Drnek, City of Oneonta, and Mayor Brian Doliver, City of Norwich. William Rivera, Director, of Southern Tier Homeless Coalition and Crisis Intervention Director for Opportunities for Otsego; Dan Maskin, CEO, of Opportunities for Otsego; Robin Cotter, Executive Director and Jeff Cheseboro, Director of Operations Catholic Charities of Chenango County; and Caitlin Gilligan Daly, District Director for Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) also addressed attendees and local media.
The HUD funding will provide rapid rehousing, rental assistance, and case management services to area residents struggling with homelessness.
