On August 15 and 16, HUD’s Denver Homeownership Center (DHOC) staff delivered in-person appraisal and underwriting training to 73 local appraisers and underwriters in Omaha, Nebraska. HUD Nebraska Field Office Director Kitty A. Amaya welcomed attendees on both days, touching on the importance of HUD’s Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity (PAVE) initiative and how HUD’s Strategic Plan emphasizes advancing sustainable homeownership, expanding homeownership opportunities and creating a more accessible and including housing finance system.

Andrew Eckel, Director of Processing and Underwriting supported six other DHOC staff as they interacted with attendees over two days. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Underwriter Training on August 15 reviewed FHA procedures, credit income, asset documentation, manual underwriting, automated underwriting systems, closings, and FAQs.

The FHA Appraiser and Appraisal Training on August 16 covered appraisal protocols, FHA Single Family Housing Policy Handbook 4000., property acceptability criteria and minimum requirements and appraiser responsibilities and requirements.

The training was an excellent opportunity for appraisers and underwriters to personally interact with DHOC staff, which made for engaging and enlightening conversation. For more information on DHOC training, contact DHOC-PSD-Training@hud.gov.
