With welcoming remarks and the introduction of the new administrator for Region 6 by Bam V. Gressett, Acting Field Office Director and opening remarks by Michael Burley, Regional Administrator, Region 6, the New Orleans Field Office (NOFO) hosted a virtual Section 3 seminar to encourage small businesses to register with HUD’s Section 3 Business Registry. In addition to the business registry, HUD assisted residents also participated and were encouraged to visit the registry to search for job opportunities that may be available. The registry provides a preference but not a guarantee to securing contracts or employment. Presentations by HUD staff included Understanding Section 3 History, Current and Future State; the benefits for Grantees and Contractors to Register in the Section 3 Portal; Exploring HUD/SBA Small Contractors Initiative from HUD’s Office of Small Disadvantage Business Utilization. Presentations by the HUD program offices who are Covered & Supported by Section 3 Economic Opportunities included Community Planning and Development, Multi-Family Housing, Fort Worth Asset Management Division; and NOFO Public and Indian Housing Division. In partnership with HUD, the U.S. Small Business Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, Louisiana Workforce Commission and Home Bank gave presentations as well.
