Riverside County and San Diego Initiate COVID-19 Renter Assistance. The United Lift Rental Assistance Program is a coordinated effort between Riverside County, Inland SoCal United Way, and Lift To Rise to keep Riverside County families and residents housed by providing one-time direct rental assistance to households that are behind on rent payments due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The City of San Diego’s COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program helps individuals and families with low income in the City of San Diego who have lost income due to COVID-19. The program will provide one-time payments of up to $4,000 per qualifying household to help pay past-due and/or upcoming rent. Read more.
Subsidized Apartments - HUD helps apartment owners offer reduced rents to low-income tenants. To apply, contact or visit the management office of each apartment building that interests you.
Public Housing and Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8)
To apply for either type of help, visit your local Public Housing Agency (PHA).
Some PHAs have long waiting lists, so you may want to apply at more than one PHA. Your PHA can also give you a list of locations at which your voucher can be used.
