Department of Housing and Urban Development Washington, D.C. 20410-8000 December 30, 1993 OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR HOUSING-FEDERAL HOUSING COMMISSIONER MORTGAGEE LETTER 93-43 TO: ALL APPROVED MORTGAGEES ATTENTION: SINGLE FAMILY SERVICING MANAGERS SUBJECT: The New Toll-free Number for the Housing Counseling Voice Response System (HCVRS) The Department of Housing and Urban Development has a new toll-free number with which delinquent mortgagors can contact the Housing Counseling Voice Response System. The previously assigned hotline number has been deactivated. Effective immediately, mortgagors must dial 1-800-569-4287 to contact the Housing Counseling Voice Response System (HCVRS). The HCVRS will give callers information that will guide them to an appropriate HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency. Also, the Department has added several important enhancements which make the system more "user friendly". These include: expansion of the system's call-handling capability to 24 lines; a clearer digitized voice; a Spanish-speaking option for touch-tone phones; and faster response time. Therefore, pursuant to Section 106(c)(5)(A) of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968 12 U.S.C. 1701x (c)(5)(A) , please inform delinquent mortgagors of the new toll-free number.
