www.hudclips.org U. S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT WASHINGTON, D. C. 20410-8000 November 9, 1988 OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR HOUSING-FEDERAL HOUSING COMMISSIONER Mortgagee Letter 88-36 TO: ALL APPROVED MORTGAGEES SUBJECT: Obtaining Duplicate Mortgage Insurance Certificates (MICs) This letter establishes a new procedure for obtaining a duplicate MIC. Requests for duplicate MICs must be made in writing to the Chief of Mortgage Credit in the HUD Field Office having jurisdiction over the property. This request must be accompanied by a copy of the mortgage note, a completed but unsigned Mortgage Insurance Certificate, Form HUD-591OO (attached) and a self addressed, stamped envelope. In preparing the duplicate MIC for the signature of the HUD official, be sure to fill in every block possible. In block 20, put the name and address of the originating mortgagee. Since that mortgagee may have moved or gone out of business, it will suffice to type in the name and address as reflected on the note. You need not enter the originating mortgagee's ID number in block 20. Finally put your company's ten digit ID number on the MIC in the space provided for current holders ID number. The Field Office will review the request and verify the facts represented on the MIC. If there are no difficulties, the Field Office will sign either the MIC sent in by the mortgagee or, possibly, issue a new computer generated duplicate and mail it to the mortgagee. The Field Office will be in touch with the mortgagee if for some reason it cannot issue a duplicate. If you have any questions concerning this Mortgagee Letter, please contact the Single Family Development Division, Programs and Procedures Branch, (202) 755-5676. Sincerely yours, Thomas T. Demery Assistant Secretary Attachment
