Objective: To discuss the challenges that community stress and trauma may present to traditional community building, to examine the four principles of a trauma informed approach to community building, and to identify elements of this approach that are relevant to your community revitalization efforts.

Description: This webinar examines a community building model that has been developed by BRIDGE Housing Corporation and San Francisco State University’s Health Equity Institute.  The model acknowledges the ongoing stress and trauma that are pervasive in communities facing poverty, ongoing violence, isolation and limited resources. During the webinar, presenters from BRIDGE Housing shared the principles of this trauma informed community building model and how the model has shaped community building in San Francisco’s South Potrero Choice Neighborhood.  The interactive webinar was attended by a wide range of participants, including Choice Neighborhood grantees, Promise Neighborhood grantees, Byrne Criminal Justice Innovations Program grantees, Building Neighborhood Capacity Program grantees, Casey Foundation Family-Centered Community Change grantees, community development corporations, and local, state and federal government representatives.

Objective: To offer Choice Neighborhood grantees examples of the unique and important roles local government plays as a partner in neighborhood planning.

Description:  This is the second webinar in a series designed to discuss the fundamentals of planning and implementing a Choice Neighborhood. This webinar offers Choice Neighborhoods grantees examples of the unique and important roles local government plays as a partner in neighborhood planning.  Mindy Turbov, Director of Choice Neighborhoods, will interview members of the Shreveport Choice Neighborhoods planning grant team about the local government’s involvement.  Reese Fayde, President of RFA Investments and former CEO of Living Cities, will discuss other examples of local government partnerships in support of neighborhood revitalization.  In addition, upcoming Choice Neighborhoods technical assistance activities will be announced.

Objective: To discuss community and stakeholder engagement strategies in Choice Neighborhoods and to inform Choice Neighborhoods grantees of the range of technical assistance opportunities available to them.

Description: This is the first webinar in a series designed to discuss the fundamentals of planning and implementing a Choice Neighborhood. Mindy Turbov, Director of Choice Neighborhoods, interviews the “We are Mantua!” Choice Neighborhood planning team from Philadelphia, PA, to facilitate a conversation about neighborhood and stakeholder engagement strategies. The Mantua team discusses progress and challenges in such areas as setting a neighborhood vision, navigating partnerships, fostering community engagement and leadership, and taking early action steps. The webinar also includes a brief overview of the menu of technical assistance options available to Choice Neighborhoods grantees and how technical assistance requests will be received.
