(NEW) June 2018 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grantee Convening

On June 6-7, 2018, the six FY2017 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grantees convened at HUD to discuss how to make the most of their planning grants. Local teams included resident leaders and partners leading the development of housing, people and neighborhood strategies. Partners included public housing authorities, city governments, health and human services organizations, non-profits, community organizations, and others. During the event, seasoned Choice Neighborhoods grantees and community development experts shared promising practices related to placemaking, community engagement, doing while planning, effective housing plans, and more.  Read more…


November 2017 Choice Neighborhoods Conference

On November 2-3, 2017, nearly 100 Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grantee representatives participated in the Choice Neighborhoods: Celebrating Six Years of Revitalizing Communities conference. This conference featured high quality sessions that addressed common challenges and highlighted innovative practices from grantees and national experts. Topics included: neighborhood transformation; public safety; employment; school readiness; Critical Community Improvements; placemaking; housing development; and case management for relocated residents. March 2017 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grantee Convening

On March 8-9, 2017, the eight FY 15/16 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grantees convened at HUD Headquarters to discuss how to engage local partners in creating aspirational and actionable Transformation Plans. Grantee teams included a diverse set of community partners, including resident leaders and representatives from public housing authorities, city governments, non-profits and other local organizations. March 2016 Choice Neighborhoods Conference

This section includes materials from the 2016 Choice Neighborhoods Grantee Conference. The conference included featured speakers, in-depth deep dive and strategy sessions, as well as promising practice workshops on community engagement, financing tools for redevelopment, strategies for stabilizing distressed and vacant properties, enhancing community safety, and improving resident outcomes. April 2015 Choice Neighborhoods FY14 Planning Grantee Covening, Washington, DC

On April 14th and 15th, 2015, representatives from the 7 newly awarded FY14 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants convened at HUD Headquarters.  The grantees participated in teams representing resident leaders, community leaders, local governments, housing authorities, nonprofits, and other partners across the sectors that matter most to neighborhoods, including schools, human services and foundations.  They learned about promising practices from Choice Neighborhoods that have been through a robust planning process and strategies to be more intentional and effective in their neighborhood revitalization work.  Read more...

March 2014 Choice Neighborhoods Southeast Regional Grantee Convening, Atlanta, GA

Bob Weissbourd, who served on the Obama Transition HUD Agency Review Team, specializes in technical economic analysis of urban assets and markets, and in creating products and institutions to successfully grow urban and regional economies.  Based on his major national research and his work developing comprehensive inclusive growth plans in ten regions as co-leader with Brookings Institution of the “Metropolitan Business Planning” initiative, Bob has designed a training for Choice Neighborhoods entitled “Economic Place Making: How to Develop a Neighborhood Business Plan.” Read more...
