Utilities, Benchmarking and Data Access
HUD spends nearly $6.4 billion each year in utility assistance. Good information about energy consumption and costs is critical to help HUD, housing providers and residents manage costs, identify and prioritize energy efficiency improvements, and track portfolio performance. HUD is working with utilities nationally to make it easier for housing providers to request and receive individual unit utility data - critical to calculating utility allowances - and whole building data, for benchmarking purposes.
