Federal Register Notice on USDA-HUD Energy Codes

A Federal Register Notice published by HUD and USDA for public comment on April 15, 2014, is a Preliminary Determination regarding the affordability and availability of minimum energy standards for new construction of certain housing insured, guaranteed or assisted by the two agencies. The Notice implements statutory requirements of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.  While incremental, it is an important part of HUD's efforts to improve the efficiency of our single family and multifamily portfolios, and helps fulfill the President's Climate Action Plan goal of cutting energy waste in the residential sector. Public comments are due May 30, 2014. The notice can be found here.

Disaggregated Life Cycle Cost Savings as referenced in Footnote 28 of the Notice provides separate estimated costs and savings for single family and multifamily housing for the 2009 IECC as developed by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the Department of Energy.
