Most HUD-assisted construction work and maintenance work at Public and Indian Housing Authorities is covered by Federal prevailing wage requirements. That means that the construction or maintenance laborers and mechanics must be paid no less than the wage rates that are established by the Department of Labor or by HUD (there are some exceptions for Indian Tribes). In addition, much of this work is covered by Federal overtime requirements meaning that if you work more than 40 hours in a workweek on the covered project you must be paid at least time and one-half for these overtime hours.
Construction or maintenance laborers and mechanics working on HUD-assisted projects that have questions about the wages they are receiving can complete an Employee Questionnaire on-line and send it to the Office of Labor Relations. You can submit your completed questionnaire electronically or you can print and mail the questionnaire. We will review the information you provide and will let you know whether the wages you are receiving are consistent with the prevailing wages applicable to the work you are performing on the project.
