The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) plays a critical role towards ensuring HUD's use of technology is efficient and effective. The CTO's primary responsibility is to provide the necessary expertise for HUD to take maximum advantage of emerging technologies.

Additionally, the CTO is responsible for guiding HUD in its adoption of best practices and procedures in the procurement, use, and sustainment of existing IT capabilities. Information technology plays a critical role in HUD’s ability to carry out its home ownership and community development mission. Therefore, the CTO will assist in ensuring HUD has the "best value" IT capabilities possible.
