HUD Secretary Fudge held Bilateral Meeting with Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport

WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge participated in bilateral talks with Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, Korean Ambassador to the United States Taeyong Cho, National Assembly Member SeungHee Hwangbo, and other officials from both HUD and the Republic of Korea.

The discussions stem from the two countries’ work to update a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States and the Republic of Korea, which was last signed in 2014. The MOU promotes the exchange of information on research and programs involving public housing policy for low-income individuals and families, housing market stabilization policy, and sustainable urban development policies - including transit-oriented development and aging in place.

“The United States and the Republic of Korea have much to share with one another,” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “The discussions today show our continued commitment to collaborating with our allies in Korea. We are here to support and learn from our respective research on affordable housing and develop successful strategies to shape our policies and programs.”

The United States and Korea share a long history of cooperation based on mutual trust, shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, common strategic interests, and an enduring friendship. The two countries work together to combat regional and global threats and to strengthen their economies. In recent years, the US-Korea Alliance has expanded into a deep, comprehensive global partnership.
