HUD Deputy Secretary to Travel to Maui to Support Wildfire Recovery Efforts

Deputy Secretary Todman will hold meetings with Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen, Hawaii Governor Josh Green, and Congressional leaders

WASHINGTON - Adrianne Todman, the 12th Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will travel to Maui, Hawaii from September 5-7, 2023, to assist in HUD’s ongoing efforts to support recovery from wildfires and discuss the Biden-Harris Administration’s latest actions to support communities impacted.

During the visit, the Deputy Secretary will tour areas affected by the wildfires and hold meetings with Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen, Hawaii Governor Josh Green, and Congressional leaders. Additionally, the Deputy Secretary will hear from local survivors affected by the disaster.

To accelerate recovery and aid, HUD is providing funding flexibilities and technical assistance. In addition to HUD’s Hawaii based team, the agency has also assigned experienced Disaster Technical Assistance providers to support the community.

Janet Golrick, Director of the Office of Disaster Management at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is also in Honolulu to join the Federal Interagency Recovery Coordination Team.

On Friday, August 18, the federal housing agencies issued a reminder of mortgage assistance for those impacted by the Maui wildfires. The Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) issued a joint statement pledging ongoing support for Hawaiian residents affected by the devastating wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui.
