"The reason that we've been able to get things done is because of the career people!" That's the message Secretary Carson delivered at the Recognition in Government Forum hosted by Partnership for Public Service last week. The Partnership's CEO Max Stier spoke with the Secretary about the the value career civil servants offer to our nation's public life. "I'm finding that people who have been there for 10, 20, 30 even 40 years have some pretty darn good ideas!"

This forum also highlighted on the work of public servants who have earned the coveted Service to America Medal or "Sammies." The event included a panel of past Sammy winners who shared their success stories. HUD is proud to have two nominees for the 2017 Sammies People Choice Awards:

  • Lead by Tom Davis, HUD's Rental Assistance Demonstration Team is a finalist is the Management Excellence category for their work generating $4 billion in private capital investment to rebuild or renovate distressed public housing; and
  • Urban Waters, a multi-agency team including EPA, USDA, Interior and ...HUD! The team is being recognized for creating public-private partnerships to clean up and revitalize urban waterways and surrounding lands, spurring economic development and reversing decades of neglect.
