About the Public Housing Neighborhood Networks (NN) Program

This funding program provided grants to Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) to establish, expand and/or update community technology centers.

Congressional appropriations for this program ended in 2006. The Notice of Funding Availability published in December 2007, was the last opportunity to apply for grant funding under this program. This last grant round will fund grantees through 2011.

Neighborhood Networks centers provide access to computers, computer training and the Internet. NN centers can also provide a wide range of services to help residents achieve long-term economic self-sufficiency. PHAs may use grant funds for such things as:

• Hiring of a project coordinator to manage and oversee center activities
• Purchase of computer equipment
• Internet connection
• Physical improvements
• Computer training
• College preparatory classes
• Job training
• Literacy training

Technical Assistance Available for Neighborhood Networks Grantees

Public Housing Neighborhood Networks grantees are also eligible to receive free technical assistance on issues such as sustainability, business-plan development, partnership building and other areas that are of interest to NN centers and their staff.
