Moving to Work (MTW) - Oakland Housing Authority

General Information

The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) administers 3,308 public housing units and 10,734 housing choice vouchers. There are 1,687 public housing units located at 12 large developments with seven family sites (including four HOPE VI sites) and five senior sites. The other 1,621 public housing units are scattered among 255 sites. In addition, OHA has 501 Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation, 18 non-federally funded, and 204 other-federally funded units. OHA's MTW program began March 31, 2004 and will terminate June 30, 2011.

Status

The OHA signed its agreement in March 2004 and began preparations for implementation. The agency will submit its first Annual Plan for review by June 2004.

Goals

• Reduce costs and achieve greater cost effectiveness in providing housing assistance
• Develop strategies to reduce reliance from federal housing subsidies
• Increase supply of affordable housing · Improve the physical condition of OHA's scattered site units
• Increase housing choices for low-income families
• Address housing needs in locally-determined ways
