Innovative Models in Elderly Public Housing

PIH has recently analyzed eleven (11) public housing models developed for the frail elderly. This allowed HUD to study the 11 models through a series of elderly housing industry meetings. In cooperation with the housing industry, HUD then determined the necessary improvements needed in addressing the current issues and barriers facing public housing authorities and tribally designated housing entities who have modernized or constructed elderly public housing. Other goals included determining the special needs of these elders, and how to maximize service dollars from non-HUD entities using HUD housing resources.

The 11 national models identified by HUD include the following:
