The
Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) provides the framework for
a unique national
workforce preparation and employment system designed to meet both
the needs of the nation's businesses and the needs of jobseekers
and those who want to further their careers.
The
law makes changes to the current funding streams, target populations,
system of delivery, accountability, long-term planning, labor market
information system, and governance structure.
Neighborhood
Networks centers can access WIA funds by contacting their local
workforce investment board and becoming an approved WIA training
site. Using these funds and resources, centers can promote welfare-to-work
efforts, leading to community building and greater individual self-sufficiency.

more information on WIA and how to make it work for a Neighborhood
