Neighborhood Networks provides potential funding sources to help centers develop and improve programs and services. Featured this week is the Jenny Jones Foundation's Jenny's Heroes.

Established in 2005, the Jenny Jones Foundation provides assistance to those in need. Primary areas of focus are education, women's health, and improving communities throughout the country. In 2005, Jenny established "Jenny's Heroes," which awarded $1 million to individuals wanting to make a difference in their local community communities in 2008. Jones plans to donate another $1 million in 2009.

Program Areas: Jenny's Heroes provides grants up to $25,000 to fund projects that promise long-term benefits. The foundation has made grants that have been used to purchase library books, school computers, firefighting gear, nursing home upgrades, sports equipment, free dental services, wheelchairs, and coats for children in domestic violence shelters.

Jenny's Heroes seeks projects for which the foundation can purchase, repair, upgrade, provide equipment, or otherwise make improvements to benefit the community. The foundation does not make cash donations. The total cost of the individual project cannot exceed $25,000.

Read about some of the projects already funded by Jenny's Heroes.
