help centers develop and improve programs and services. Featured
this week is Nordstrom.
Nordstrom,
Inc. is one of the nation's leading fashion specialty retailers,
with 159 U.S. stores located in 27 states and the District of Columbia.
Founded in 1901, Nordstrom has grown from one downtown Seattle,
Washington shoe store into a nationwide fashion specialty chain.
Program
Areas: Nordstrom has a long-standing commitment to supporting
the communities it serves in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado,
Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii,
Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. This support
takes the form of cash contributions, community partnerships, and
volunteerism.

Targeted
Area: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest,
and West.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for contributions, organizations must:

Have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status under the Internal
Revenue Code.
|
|
Benefit the local communities served by Nordstrom.
|
|
Demonstrate sound and responsible financial policies
and management.
|
|
Satisfy Nordstrom that the project is not an
unnecessary duplication. |
Nordstrom
does not make contributions for:
|
Unrestricted operating funds of organizations
already receiving funding from United Way.
|
|
Individuals.
|
|
Projects of a political nature.
|
|
Individual primary or secondary schools.
|
|
Scholarships. |
|
Religious organizations for sectarian purposes. |
|
Special-occasion or goodwill advertising. |
|
Loans or investments. |
|
Auctions, raffles, or opportunity drawings. |
|
Team sponsorships or fundraising competitions.
|
|
Production of films, videotapes, recordings,
publications, or displays.
|
|
Merchandise promotions. |
|
Conferences or conventions. |
Award
Amount: Award amounts vary. Nordstrom prefers its contributions
be cash so the charity receives the maximum benefit. For this reason,
Nordstrom does not donate merchandise, gift cards, samples, or supplies.
Application
Process: If the organization or program meets the eligibility
requirements, the organization must submit in writing:

A concise program description, including purpose
and objectives.
|
|
Amount of request.
|
|
Proof of nonprofit status under Internal Revenue
Code.
|
|
A list of officers and directors.
|
|
History of organization. |
Contributions
to a project imply no further commitment unless specifically stated
at the time of initial funding.
Deadlines:
Most contributions are determined annually by the regional office.
Requests must be received by November 1 for the following year.
Organizations will be notified in January of the status of their
request.
