- -
 Information by State
 Print version

Each week, Neighborhood Networks provides potential funding sources to help centers develop and improve programs and services. Featured this week are grants from the Teleflex Foundation.

Program Areas: The foundation makes grants in the areas of education, health/human services, culture and arts, and civic and community development. The foundation strives to create an impact on the quality of life in Teleflex communities and build supportive relationships among its stakeholders. The foundation places a priority on programs that have the commitment and volunteer involvement of Teleflex communities. Teleflex facilities are located in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Targeted Area: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West.

Eligibility: The Teleflex Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations in communities where Teleflex is located. Organizations may determine if they are in one of the foundation's giving areas by calling them at (610) 948-2853. If so, and the organization wishes to apply for a grant, it should complete the Grant Application and Summary and return it to Thelma Fretz, executive director. This will help the foundation determine if the organization should submit a full proposal.

The foundation does not fund:

 -   Endowment funds.
 -   General operating funds.
 -   Capital campaigns.
 -   Memberships.
 -   Sponsorships.
 -   Direct grants or scholarships to individuals.
 -   Labor, athletic, or fraternal groups.
 -   Gifts to organizations that qualify for tax-exemption for religious purposes.
 -   Goodwill advertising.
 -   Fundraising events.
 -   Subscription fees or admission tickets.
 -   Trips or tours.

Award Amount: Grants typically range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Application process: If asked to submit a proposal, organizations should submit a cover letter of no more than three pages that includes:

 -   The primary mission, objectives, and goals of the organization.
 -   A description of the program, including evidence of need, number of people served, and how success will be measured.
 -   The specific dollar amount requested.

The proposal must also contain:

 -   A copy of the organization's tax-exemption letter under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
 -   An itemized program/project budget showing income and expenses.
 -   A current annual operating budget that lists income and expenses.
 -   A list of current funding sources.
 -   The most recent audited financial statement or IRS Form 990.

Deadlines: The foundation trustees meet in November. Application deadline for 2008 is August 29th.
