to help centers develop and improve programs and services. Featured
this week is Qualcomm
Incorporated.
Headquartered
in San Diego, California, Qualcomm Incorporated is a leader in developing
and delivering innovative digital wireless communications products
and services.
Program Areas: Every year, Qualcomm aims to donate one percent
of the company's pretax profits to community causes, with a focus
on programs that promote education, health and human services, and
culture and the arts. Within each of these categories, Qualcomm
evaluates programs based on: demonstrated community need, outcome
scope and measurability, solution ingenuity, fiscal responsibility,
and program scalability. Qualcomm's giving and volunteerism programs
are based on: respect for community organizations, cooperative leadership
development, and philanthropic creativity.

Groups that practice or promote discriminatory,
exclusionary, or partisan policies. |

Application
Process: Qualcomm uses a three-step application process. These
steps include:

Complete the Letter
of Inquiry Form. Qualcomm will respond within seven business
days. Organizations that are not invited to submit a proposal
may resubmit a letter of inquiry six months following the date
of the original letter of inquiry. |

If Qualcomm determines that an organization should
submit a complete proposal, the proposal must include:

The San
Diego Common Grant Application. Qualcomm requests that
organizations complete this form regardless of an organization's
location. |
|
In addition to the Common Grant Application,
organizations should provide:
|
A description of Qualcomm employee involvement,
i.e. volunteer, board service, etc. |
|
A list of past donations from Qualcomm
(list amount, project, date) |
|
Number of paid staff (both full and
part time), number of volunteers |
|
(Optional) Maximum of five related articles,
reviews, or videos of organization or proposed program
Organizations that were invited to submit a proposal,
but did not receive funds from Qualcomm, may resubmit
a proposal six months after the original proposal submission
date. |

|
Organizations that receive a grant from Qualcomm
need to complete the Evaluation
Form 12 months after the award date. |
If
the proposal does not have all the required elements, Qualcomm will
contact the organization, request the omitted elements, and, if
possible, review in the current cycle. All proposals are answered
in writing.
Deadlines:
Qualcomm accepts funding requests year-round. The corporate giving
committee reviews requests monthly. Complete proposals received
by the 15th of the month will be reviewed the following month.
