Neighborhood
Networks Week 2009 Closing Event Web Cast
At
2 p.m. EDT, Neighborhood Networks center staff members and stakeholders
from across the country are invited to join in a national Web cast
that spotlights the remarkable partnership between the Town and
Country Family Learning Opportunity Center and the University of
California, San Diego (UCSD). The one-hour Web cast will describe
how UCSD undergraduate and graduate student buddies visit the Town
and Country Family Learning Opportunity Center each day during the
afterschool hours to serve as tutors to school-aged children. A
panel of key contributors will describe how the partnership was
started and how centers can form similar partnerships with their
local academic institutions. Panelists will offer guidance on how
to approach a local college/university, including which department
to contact for the initial call; explain why partnering with a Neighborhood
Networks center is an appealing proposition for a college or university;
list different services and resources that colleges and universities
can provide to Neighborhood Networks centers; and discuss how to
share the mutual benefits that a partnership will produce. Panelists
will answer questions from online participants in real time.
