To help
center staff provide residents with the training they need to compete in today's
job market, enhance their own professional skills, and improve center operations,
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has created Neighborhood
Networks Interactive Virtual Learning Courses (IVLCs). The IVLCs deliver no-travel-required
learning opportunities that help center staff build sustainable Neighborhood Networks
centers, and equip residents with the skills and information they need to achieve
greater self-sufficiency. Led
by subject-matter experts, the IVLCs are offered free of charge and can be completed
at a pace that fits the student's learning style. Residents and center staff can
participate in a live IVLC that allows them to engage in real-time discussions
with instructors, or access an archived IVLC. Courses will be held weekly in 30-,
45-, or 60-minute sessions that run from two to 18 weeks. In 2009, Neighborhood
Networks will offer the following IVLCs:
Courses
for Residents
Courses
for Center Staff
| Participating
in an IVLC is easy. Centers need only an Internet connection and Adobe Flash Player
8 software, which is available as a free
download. Center staff and residents must register online one week prior to
the course launch date. Participation in live IVLCs may be limited based on instructor
and topic area to ensure that learners receive adequate attention. However, each
IVLC will be recorded and archived on the Neighborhood Networks Web site so that
center staff and residents can access them at any time.
For
more information about the IVLCs, please download the IVLC
course catalog. You can register online
or download, complete, and submit the IVLC
registration form. For an updated schedule and additional information
on each course, please click on the course name above. If you have
any questions, please contact us via email
or on the toll-free Neighborhood Networks Information Center at
(888) 312-2743.
