Neighborhood Networks Week is always a very special time of the
year for everyone associated with the Initiative. It is an opportunity
for centers to open their doors and invite residents and community
members to check out all that the local Neighborhood Networks center
has to offer. It is a chance for center directors to give recognition
to all the staff members, residents, volunteers, and partners who
help make center programs a success. It provides a stage on which
centers can shine the spotlight on their accomplishments, as well
as the achievements of those who are realizing their goals with
the help of Neighborhood Networks.
This summer, Neighborhood Networks Week will be even more meaningful
as it will honor the Initiative's 15th anniversary. During this
weeklong observance scheduled for August 2 - 7, the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) invites all centers to host
a local event that not only captures the spirit of Neighborhood
Networks Week, but also honors this significant milestone. To help
centers plan and host a successful event, Neighborhood Networks
is updating the Neighborhood Networks Week Event Planning Guide.
The updated guide, which will be distributed to centers shortly,
includes an enhanced step-by-step overview of the event planning
process, as well as new resources, such as a planning timeline,
a budget checklist, and Internet safety tips, that centers can use
for their events. Additionally, HUD will sponsor national events
in which all centers may participate via the Web.
For more information, visit the Neighborhood
Networks Web site or call the Neighborhood Networks Information
Center toll-free at (888) 312-2743. The hearing impaired may access
the number via TTY by calling the Federal Information Relay Service
at (800) 877-8339.
Spend some time this summer honoring Neighborhood Networks' successful
past and promising future during Neighborhood Networks Week 2010.
