Effective Budgeting for Neighborhood Networks Centers

- -
 Information by State
 Print version

Description:

Funding is always a primary concern for Neighborhood Networks centers. Challenges include maximizing funds already secured and seeking new sources of support. Efficient financial planning helps with both objectives. A well-crafted budget guides and supports center goals, and also serves as reassurance to potential funders that their donations are in good hands. Led by staff that prepare Neighborhood Networks center budgets, this session will share examples of different budgets, and offer various tools and strategies to help attendees create, maintain, and assess actual budgets for their centers.

As the executive director of Pathway to the Future Learning Center, a nonprofit community center that helps disadvantaged and at-risk youth develop personal, professional, and educational skills, Ms. Jackson mentors children to learn, grow, and become self-sufficient. She also has developed programs such as the Pathway Teen Summit Youth Council that creates opportunities for youth. Ms. Jackson has received numerous awards, certificates, and outstanding achievements, but she is proudest of the Performance Award she received from the Amber Wood’s Cooperative Board for going above and beyond the call of duty. She was selected for her outstanding achievement and family support during the aftermath of the 2002 tornado that destroyed several apartments at the Amber Woods 350-unit apartment complex. Ms. Jackson has served on several community committees and boards, including as president of the Indiana Neighborhood Network Consortium, Eastside Neighborhood and Community Team (ENACT) Committee, Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Community (INRC) Board Advisory Committee, Warren Township Metropolitan Advisory Committee, and Indianapolis Metropolitan Insight Advisory. Ms. Jackson earned a master’s degree in business administration with a specialization in health care management from Indiana Wesleyan University, a bachelor’s degree in business management with an emphasis in marketing from Indiana Wesleyan University, and an associate of science degree from Ivy Tech State College.

As the director of development and community programs, Robert Zardeneta is responsible for grantwriting and identifying funding sources for the advancement of social programs and real estate development projects for the Pico Union Housing Corporation. Over the past two years, Mr. Zardeneta has secured approximately $1.7 million in funds for the Pico Union Housing Corporation. For the past 13 years, Mr. Zardeneta has dedicated his professional career to serving low-income, at-risk youths and their families. As director of the Los Angeles Sports Academy, Mr. Zardeneta collaborated with the University of California, Los Angeles; the Los Angeles Unified School District; and the L.A. Bridges Program to operate one of the district's most successful afterschool programs. Mr. Zardeneta attended the Berklee College of Music, and earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
