Planning a Successful Neighborhood Networks Week Event

All year the center staff spends its days planning and implementing programs and services that help residents succeed. During Neighborhood Networks Week 2008, center stakeholders celebrate and highlight the results of their hard work by hosting a local event. For those unsure of how to start planning, that's not a problem. The Neighborhood Networks special projects staff will host this session and provide participants with all the ins and outs of hosting a successful special event. From deciding what type of event to host and gaining support for that event to the steps to planning a successful event and working with volunteers and the media to promote and host the event, this session offers everything participants need to know to host a Neighborhood Networks Week event that is sure to draw a crowd and get their center noticed.

Linda Daley serves as the communications manager for Neighborhood Networks. In this position, Ms. Daley applies her nearly 20 years of marketing, public relations, and communications experience to the conceptualization, creation, and production of a variety of Neighborhood Networks print and electronic publications. These include brochures, fact sheets, technical assistance materials, banners, success stories, funding updates, and conference exhibits. Prior to joining the Neighborhood Networks team, Ms. Daley served as an editor for the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, and as an account supervisor in the Washington, D.C. office of the international public relations firm, Porter Novelli. At Porter Novelli, Ms. Daley provided strategic counsel and support to various organizations, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the State of California, American Legacy Foundation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Ms. Daley earned a master of arts degree in communication from the University of New Mexico and a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from St. Michael's College in Vermont.

Emily Wright serves as the civic engagement coordinator at the Grand Forks Housing Authority. In this position, Ms. Wright works to involve the community in the Housing Authority's activities, the Authority's four Neighborhood Networks centers, and partner organizations inside and outside of the community. In addition, Ms. Wright served as the board assistant for the Neighborhood Networks National Consortium (NNNC) from 2006-2007. Prior to her work with the Grand Forks Housing Authority, Ms. Wright served as executive chair of the Nonprofit Leadership Student Association at the University of North Dakota (UND). In this role, she coordinated a variety of programs, volunteer activities, and fundraisers. Ms. Wright continues to serve as a guest lecturer at UND. Ms. Wright earned a bachelor of arts in English and communication, and received certification in nonprofit leadership from American Humanics, Inc.
