Description:
For
those interested in incorporating workforce development into their
Neighborhood Networks center programming, the Center for Faith-Based
and Community Initiatives (CFBCI) empowers faith-based and community
organizations that help their neighbors prepare for, enter, and
thrive in the workforce. The CFBCI does this by connecting organizations
with funding opportunities. During this workshop session, participants
will learn about the resources offered by the CFBCI. The workshop
will include training on how to apply for U.S. Department of Labor
(DOL) workforce development funding and information and strategies
for partnering with a local workforce investment system.

Erica
Pelman is a special assistant in the U.S. Department of Labor's
Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, where she worked
since September 2001. In this position, she is responsible for overseeing
national outreach to faith-based and community organizations and
managing a number of special projects. These projects include: SHARE
Network, Project Reach Out, and Workforce Board Faith-Based and
Community Initiatives grants.
Ann Winston serves as the resident services supervisor for
Hawthorne Place Apartments, a 745-unit, affordable housing tax credit
and Section 8 property owned by Preservation of Affordable Housing,
LLC. In this position, Ms. Winston connects the property's more
than 1,600 residents with community resources so that they can achieve
greater self-sufficiency. To do this, Ms. Winston assesses the needs
of residents and develops programs and services that meet these
needs. Ms. Winston and her team of social services coordinators
also work to attract residents to beneficial programming and meet
other emergency needs that arise in the residents' lives.
