Description:

More and more Americans are relying on the Internet for important health information. Many individuals use the Internet to become more informed and active health consumers. Others seek information about free health resources for themselves and their family. And, senior Internet users tend to search for information on various health topics and prescription drugs, as well as seek support from others with similar health concerns. This session provides information on online and free health resources for residents, including the State Children's Health Insurance Program, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Benefits Check-Up Web site.

Anne Sain became interested in providing seniors with comfortable and affordable living after seeing the difference in her mother's quality of life when she moved out of the family home and into a senior community. Ms. Sain has worked in senior services for more than 20 years, and relocated to Jackson, Tennessee 11 years ago to accept the position of manager at St. Mary Manor Apartments. In 2002, Ms. Sain created the St. Mary Manor Apartments Neighborhood Networks Center, which has become an asset to residents, the community, and the property. Ms. Sain is a certified occupancy specialist, certified manager of housing, certified manager of maintenance, and site-based budget specialist. She is also an active member of the Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association (SAHMA). Ms. Sain earned a bachelor of business administration degree and a master of bilingual education degree from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis).

Toni Yancey currently serves as the outreach/exhibits coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Southeastern/Atlantic Region (NN/LM SE/A). Ms. Yancey has worked as a medical librarian for more than 10 years, spending the past eight years educating health professionals about the products and services of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). To do this, Ms. Yancey conducts training sessions throughout the southeast United States and attends state and regional meetings of healthcare professionals and consumers. Prior to working at SE/A, Ms. Yancey spent three years as an information resources specialist at Covance, one of the world's largest drug development companies.
