Neighborhood Networks’ national partner
i-SAFE, a worldwide leader in Internet safety for children, is dedicated to providing students with the critical thinking and decision-making skills needed to recognize and avoid dangerous and/or unlawful online behavior. In this session, i-SAFE communicates how to keep children safe online by discussing Internet fraud, securing computers, and protecting users’ personal information.

Dennis Shaw is the chief operating officer of i-SAFE America, Inc., a federally funded, nonprofit foundation, providing kindergarten through 12 schools across the nation with a no-cost Internet safety education program that helps children and teens reduce the risk of being victimized while engaged in activities on the Internet. Shaw also practices law in southern California, specializing in appellate and business law, as well as corporate turnarounds. He has taught law, business, and real estate courses in San Diego. Shaw served in the Reagan administration as the principal deputy assistant secretary of defense (Reserve Affairs), acting assistant secretary of defense (Reserve Affairs), and deputy under secretary of the Navy (Policy). For his outstanding accomplishments as an appointee in the Reagan administration, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger awarded Shaw the highest Department of Defense (DoD) civilian medal for Distinguished Public Service (Gold). Shaw also completed a special project for Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci, who awarded him the second highest DoD civilian medal for Outstanding Public Service (Silver) as director of the national defense strategic stockpile. Shaw earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California in Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in strategic studies and defense analysis from the University of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. He received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1980.
