Join media and business mogul Russell Simmons, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the national Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Partnership for Immunization (NPI), and the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in celebrating Neighborhood Networks (NN) Week!

In addition to your local events, Neighborhood Networks is offering a national NN Week program to ensure that all centers have the opportunity to participate.

MONDAY

  • Neighborhood Networks National Consortium Web cast, 3 p.m. (EDT) -- The newly formed Neighborhood Networks National Consortium (NNNC) will conduct a Web cast (hosted by NN national partner Kidz Online) to share their mission and vision for all NN centers, seek feedback from stakeholders to help guide their strategic planning for the future, and offer opportunities to serve on the NNNC Board. Simply log onto the Kidz Online site to participate.

  • Neighborhood Networks Essay Contest -- Winners of the First Annual Neighborhood Networks Essay Contest will be recognized, and winning essays will be announced during the NNNC Web cast.
  • E-Pals -- By signing up for the E-Pals activity, NN center users can "meet" and communicate with other users across the country based on shared interests. E-Pals are encouraged to begin their dialog with one another on this day. Each participant must fill out a registration form.

TUESDAY

  • WNBA Web chat -- The Women's National Basketball Association will host a Web chat for Neighborhood Networks centers with U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Winner DeLisha Milton of the Washington Mystics.

To participate in the WNBA Web chat and ask questions, visit the ESPN web site.

WEDNESDAY

  • Financial Empowerment, 1 p.m. (EDT) -- Neighborhood Networks national partner UniRush Financial Service will host a conference call to discuss how Neighborhood Networks center staff can help residents become financially empowered. UniRush founder Russell Simmons will participate in this conference call and discuss the importance of financial planning for the future. A question and answer period will follow. The number of participants for the call will be limited to 600, so please call in on time.

To join this call, dial (866) 814-8448 and ask to be connected to the "Financial Empowerment" conference call.

  • National Immunization Awareness, 3 p.m. (EDT) -- The National Partnership for Immunization (NPI) will host a conference call for all NN centers to discuss the importance of immunization awareness, and provide suggestions for ideas on how to promote immunization awareness to the residents and communities served by NN centers. This call will "train" center staff on how to host health fair events by contacting local health resources and bringing these resources into the NN centers.

To be connected, simply dial the toll free number, (888) 630-9270, and ask the operator to connect you to the Neighborhood Networks Week conference call. Please be prepared to provide the operator with your contact information prior to being connected to the call.

THURSDAY

  • NASA Web cast, 4-4:40 p.m. (EDT) -- NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will host a Web cast entitled "Imagine Mars: HUD's Neighborhood Networks Get Involved," which will highlight a partnership between the Northpointe Neighborhood Networks Resource Center and JPL. Video clips of the Northpointe students working on their Imagine Mars project will be shown, and some of the students and a JPL engineer will discuss their experiences with the project.
