The
percentage of "aged" cases at the end of fiscal year 2002 was 29
percent, the lowest it has ever been since the 1988 Fair Housing
Amendments Act was passed. The Act requires HUD to process fair
housing complaints within 100 days.
During
this administration FHEO achieved the all-time low by committing
additional staff and resources to clearing up HUD's inventory of
complaints. The dramatic reduction is a reaffirmation of the Department's
belief that justice delayed is justice denied, and underscores its
commitment to the prompt and successful resolution of complaints
from individuals who believe their fair housing rights have been
violated.
