Immediate Housing Needs are being addressed by HUD’s Local Offices

Nationwide

HUD is currently setting up "one-stop shopping" centers in locales with large concentrations of displaced individuals (e.g. Astrodome, Reunion Arena, DC Armory, etc.) These centers allow HUD officials to meet with displaced individuals and determine how HUD can assist them in finding more appropriate temporary housing or permanent housing in the host city.

Houston

HUD's Houston Disaster Team, the Houston Housing Authority, and the Dallas Housing Authority are assisting in the processing of public housing residents at the Houston Astrodome. They will also have materials available on local shelters, appropriate temporary housing, and other assistance available for displaced families.

HUD, the Harris County Housing Authority, the Housing Department of the City of Houston, and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs are working together to process displaced individuals and find them appropriate permanent housing. To date, the combined efforts have served approximately 1,100 individuals.
