Allocations and Awards

Each year, HUD awards two types of homeless assistance grants to organizations across the country. The Department awards Continuum of Care (CoC) grants competitively that fund transitional housing, permanent housing and supportive services.

The Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) program provides funds by formula for homeless prevention and emergency assistance. In FY 2008, HUD provided approximately $1.326 billion in the CoC competition awards and $160 million in ESG awards.
