The Rural Housing and Economic Development Gateway is an information clearinghouse created
and operated by HUD's Office of Rural Housing
and Economic Development to provide technical
assistance, training, and information resources in support of community development efforts in rural America.

HUD's Office of Rural Housing and
Economic Development will respond to technical assistance requests and create and disseminate information resources.

Rural Gateway Services

A variety of services are available for rural housing and community development practitioners:

One-on-One Technical Assistance
Call 1-877-RURAL-26 (1-877-787-2526) or e-mail rhed@hud.gov. The
Rural Gateway technical assistance line will be answered by a live staff person from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. eastern time, Monday through Friday.

Local Training Sessions
A series of training events, tailored to the needs of rural populations, will be offered. Trainers with experience and expertise in rural areas will provide insight on rural housing, infrastructure, and economic development.

Peer-to-Peer Exchanges
The Rural Gateway provides organizations with opportunities to network with others across the country and share experiences, information, and support. The peer-to-peer exchanges will be offered in several formats:

Listservs: Rural community development practitioners have access to two listservs: one dedicated to rural housing, and the other dedicated to economic development and infrastructure issues.

Conference Calls: Rural Gateway staff will host conference calls. Each call will focus on a rural housing, infrastructure, or economic development issue. A schedule of conference call topics and dates will be posted when available.

Case Studies: The experiences of other rural practitioners who have addressed similar challenges in developing rural housing, infrastructure, or economic development projects can be instructive. The Rural Gateway will provide a series of written case studies illustrating common issues and innovative strategies used by rural organizations. If you have a suggestion for an interesting case study, please contact the Rural Gateway staff.

Funding Summaries
The Rural Gateway provides brief descriptions of federal programs that fund rural housing, infrastructure, and economic development. In addition to providing a brief description of the program, each funding summary includes contact information for the public agency that offers the program. Rural Gateway staff can help answer questions that require more information than is contained in the funding summaries.

Please note that the Rural Gateway is not able to help individuals or families directly.
