Preversation Alliance of West Virginia in Charleston, WV will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Capacity Building grant in the amount of $150,000. The applicant proposes to use their Capacity Building award to foster economic development by strengthening businesses through rural and agri-tourism along with increasing rehabilitation of older buildings for housing and small business use in rural communities. The applicant proposes to utilize market research along with tourism experience to provide training to existing and potential new rural and agri-businesses on how to develop, brand and market products and services. Homeownership assistance will also be an integral part of this organization’s activities. Partners in this project will be Potomac Heritage Partnership. Proposed leveraging amounts to $75,000.

Southern Appalachian Labor School in Kincaid, WV will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development grant in the amount of $400,000. The applicant proposes to use their Innovative award to train thirty employed school drop outs, providing them with skill development to obtain their GEDs, and on site or hands on training in construction. The trainees will rehabilitate housing owned and operated by very low income families in the coal camps located in two EZ/EC zones in West Virginia. Proposed leveraging for $471,567.
