West Tennessee Legal Services, Jackson, TN will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Capacity Building Grant in the amount of $150,000. The Capacity Building award will enhance the organization’s services in providing affordable housing, job readiness and work placement for special needs populations in the Lower Delta Region. Partnering with this organization will be AIDS Housing of Washington, Arkansas Department of Health, State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities and Community Development Corporation Bentonville/Bellavista, Inc. Proposed leveraging amounts to $135,000.

The Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority, Inc. in Morristown, TN will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Innovative Grant in the amount of $400,000. This Innovative Grant will assist in the Appalachian Manufacturing Retention and Expansion Project, which promotes industrial retention and affordable housing development and to increase the stock of affordable housing units in the target area. They are also proposing to create 175 jobs for low-income workers in their service area. Proposed leveraging is $35,000.

Buffalo Valley, Inc. in Hohenwald, TN will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Innovative Grant in the amount of $400,000. This Innovative Grant will be used to provide affordable permanent housing opportunities in the rural service area. Buffalo Valley, Inc. presently provides transitional and permanent housing, job training and job placement and other social and supportive services for low and very low income residents of rural Tennessee. Proposed leveraging amounts to $1,044,000.

The Carey Counseling Center, Inc., in Paris, TN will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Innovative Grant in the amount of $400,000. This Innovative Grant will assist in the rehabilitation of 25 single-family homes, develop seven units of rental housing and pay staff salaries for a housing coordinator. Program beneficiaries will be low-income persons with disabilities residing in rural northwest Tennessee and the Lower Mississippi Delta region. Proposed leveraging is in the amount of $434,080. Other partners in this project will be Union Partners Bank, Tennessee Housing Development Agency and Reconstruct Inc.
