Options for Southern Oregon, Inc. will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Capacity Building grant in the amount of $108,625. The applicant will use their award to build capacity within their organization. They will use the additional funds to expand their affordable housing program activities from special needs housing to a broader and more generic low-income population. There will be a needs assessment conducted of the Cave Junction/Illinois Valley area to determine the kind of affordable housing that would benefit their community. Partnering with this organization will be Josephine Housing and Community Development Council and the Illinois Valley Community Response Team. Proposed leveraging amounts to $64,265.

Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Capacity Building grant in the amount of $150,000. The applicant will use their Capacity Building award to create a comprehensive forest management plan for lands that are in the process of being restored. This is keystone to the tribal economic development strategy and must be created in a systematic, logical and inclusive fashion. This award will assist in the development of codes and ordinances as well as protect the land base and sustainable forest harvest. This plan should also protect and enhance salmon habitat, develop recreation and ecotourism options. Partnering with this applicant will be the Environmental Protection Agency, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Siuslaw National Forest, Oregon’s Departments of Forestry, Fish & Wildlife, and Environmental Quality, Oregon State University and the Land County Soil and Water Conservation District. Proposed leveraging $83,500.

Confederated Tribes of Umatilla in Pendleton, OR will receive a Rural Housing and Economic Development Capacity Building grant in the amount of $150,000. The applicant proposes to use their capacity building award to assist in their Comprehensive Business Planning for their Tribal Industrial Park project. This project will build a strong foundation for future economic growth and diversification on the Reservation, which will support increased homeownership for Native American residents. Other partners supporting this applicant are the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department, the City of Pendleton and the Port of Umatilla. Proposed leveraging for this application amounts to $93,289.
