Consulting Firm in Renewal Community Renovates Mill Building and Creates 45 Jobs
Since 2002, businesses in Lowell, Massachusetts Renewal Community have received nearly $44 million in Commercial Revitalization Deduction allocations to offset the costs to construct or rehabilitate commercial properties. Nobis Engineering, an environmental engineering company in search of a Massachusetts headquarter for their growing business, chose to convert a dilapidated old mill building to showcase it technical expertise. Nobis renovated what’s historically know as the “Sargent building” at 585 Middlesex Street, with state-of-the-art environmental building materials.
Nobis renovated the 20,000 square foot space to support the continuation of Nobis’ strategic and planned growth, and along with that investment, brought a new workforce to Lowell of 45 full-time jobs and a payroll of approximately $2.5 million annually. In addition, this project became the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified historic rehabilitation project in Lowell, receiving one of the highest ratings from the state.
