Success Story Description

Through the use of City CDBG funds, North Brevard Charities Sharing Center operates two transitional homes, which provide emergency assistance to low- and moderate-income individuals and families for approximately 10 to 30 days in order to assist them towards self-sufficiency. The Agency seeks to meet the emergency housing needs of families and individuals who find themselves in a situation where they need shelter for a short period of time to help them during their transition, such as a victim of a house fire, relocating to the area, domestic violence situation, or loss of job.

This project has been awarded CDBG funds since 2001, and provided assistance to 54 homeless individuals and families, of which 41 were low income and 13 were moderate income. In addition, 382 referrals were provided for job placement and supportive services.

During FY02/03, the City committed its FY99/00, FY00/01, FY01/02, and FY02/03 HOME CHDO funds, in the amount of $92,856, to North Brevard Charities Sharing Center to construct and operate two additional transitional homes (a duplex) in Titusville. The project was named Angel Tree. Because of this partnership, the Agency was able to leverage additional funding needed to complete the project from Brevard County in the amount of $123,144.
