World AIDS Day 2004 Commemoration
HUD formally observed World AIDS Day this year with a commemorative presentation on December 2, 2004. This year, World AIDS Day focused on the way women's inequality helps fuel the transmission of HIV and increases the impact of AIDS. Deputy Secretary Roy A. Bernardi was one of the speakers.
The observance highlighted the successful HUD funded activities under the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program. These HUD programs have provided funding for operation of AIDS housing programs and for technical assistance to improve the capacity of local organizations in addressing the special needs of these citizens. At the presentation, the Delaware HIV Consortium was recognized for its work on the "Woman Space" permanent housing project.
Information about all of HOPWA's programs can be found on the Statewide HOPWA Information Website.
