In Topic 4: Complying with Occupancy Requirements of this training module, we examined how to merge HOME and LIHTC rules in order to comply with the occupancy requirements of both programs. This topic will take a closer look at the rules for determining rents when using both sources of funding.

HUD establishes rent limits for both the HOME and LIHTC programs. For units subsidized under both programs, rents cannot exceed either program limit. As a result, it is important that PJs and property managers have a basic understanding of the rent rules under each program.
