The Internet provides a gateway to energy efficiency experts and associations. For example, the DOE has an Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Information Center on its website that provides a fillable form for consumers to ask a question about how to make their home or building more energy efficiency. Users just complete and submit the form and an energy expert at the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clearinghouse (EREC) will respond as soon as possible.
The Energy Efficiency field also has several industry and professional organizations available. Key organizations include:
- The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) is a non-profit trade association of service to the independent heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) contractors. Check out their Points of Interest and Consumer Information page for help with selecting AC contractors, how to make your home more comfortable, indoor air quality, and much more.
- The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an international organization of 50,000 persons with chapters throughout the world. The Society is organized for the sole purpose of advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration for the public's benefit through research, standards writing, continuing education and publications.
- The Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) is an association of nearly 2,000 utility executives, consultants, manufacturers, researchers, government regulators, and others concerned with promoting energy efficiency and value. Our members are individuals active in the energy services industry. Founded in 1989, the AESP conducts training courses, topical conferences, and workshops.
- The Energy Efficient Building Association, Inc. (EEBA) website offers online documents describing their mission, history, functions, programs, and membership options. Background information about attending, sponsoring, and participating at their annual conference and exposition; a draft of their "Criteria" for designing, constructing, and rehabilitating residential and small commercial buildings; and ordering information for available EEBA publications can also be obtained here.
- National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO). The mission of NAESCO is to promote the delivery by ESCOs of comprehensive energy services including energy efficiency, to maximize customer benefits and environmental sustainability.
- National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). NAHB's Housing Facts and Figures section includes a wealth of diverse statistical and historic information about the nation's housing market. NAHB has 182,000 members, including more than 50,000 who build more than 80 percent of all U.S. homes. The Research Center keeps the U.S. home building closely tied to new technology and changing needs.
